Trendy or Classic...To Be Decided

Hey Y’all, its Chelsey here with Iron & Ivy Design. With spring just around the corner (hopefully) comes the ever-changing décor trends that inevitably follow. Décor stores will be busy refreshing stock with unique goodies and tempting new items up for grabs. Herein lies the dilemma. Do you spend the money it will take to follow these new trends and update your home décor?
Here are a few tips and tricks to get the most out of your existing décor pieces and still achieve the updated look you desire!

  • When purchasing large furniture items for your home, stick to neutral colors and patterns that have a classic, clean feel. Sure, that oversized blush ottoman feels glamorous now but, in a few months, when color schemes are leaning in a different direction you may regret that purchase.
  • Choose art and large wall décor items with many colors or neutral colors. That way you can change out smaller pieces as the trends change, and still feel cohesive with your chosen art. That being said…if you find that perfect, gotta-have-it piece that you know you will love for years regardless of trends…go for it!
  • Think carefully when purchasing trendy or color coordinated décor. Will you still love this piece in 5 years if trends change and you don’t want to spend the money to update. If the answer is yes, then load up your cart! In an ideal world we could all afford to update décor often, but in reality, that is not always the case.
  • Go funky with smaller décor items! Smaller pieces are usually more affordable and therefore can be changed out more often, this is the time to show off your personality and to add in those trendy pieces you’ve been dying to use!
  • A high impact, lower cost way to achieve an updated space is to use wallpaper! Today’s wallpaper has come a long way from the floral borders we all grew up with. Wallpaper now comes in many beautiful styles, mimicking a variety of textures including velvet, wood and high gloss and is often available in peel and stick to avoid messy installation.
These tips and tricks will help you achieve longevity out of your purchases. Just remember, if all else fails and you are dying for an update, but you don’t have a large budget, a little diy goes a long way!

Cheers,

What Our Clients Are Saying

Absolutely fantastic!

Chelsey is excellent at what she does. Being able to have someone to bounce my ideas off of was something I never knew I was going to need so much. Chelsey helped me source all furniture for our new home. Her mood boards were beautiful and she clearly caught onto my style perfectly. She was always on time and was quick to respond to any email or text message.

So so worth it. Weather you feel you know nothing about design or know plenty, having that extra help was well worth it.

I will forever highly recommend Chelsey to all family and friends.
